South Island Travels - 1963/1964

The 45 degree south meridian. Half way between the equator and the South Pole.

A plaque set in a large rock and signpost on the 45 degree south meridian marking the half way point between the equator and the South Pole.

Yes, I know, the miles don't add up, but is because the Earth is not flat, but curved, or the exact location of the South Pole was not exactly determined at that time (no GPS back then in 1964)?

Taken 27th December, 1963.
